Barberton Parks And Recreation Summer Schedule Of Events and Concert Series (with video clips of the Bands.)

 Barberton Parks @ Recreation

Many residents of the area do not know what the parks department does with their resources.

Lisa Mclean is the head of the department and most citizens think of only the summer concerts as the park’s reason to exist.

The Concert schedule is becoming more inclusive musically covering many genres of music.  for all residents. Gone are the days when Lawrence Welk and the Big band sound predominated, and now we see A Pink Floyd Tribute Band, a little Grunge, and an old-time favorite in La Flavor.

The Schedule starts on June 19 at 7 pm with Motor City Gold. A popular Motown classic group from Cleveland. They played at the park’s concerts in the last few summers and were a big hit.

June 26 is the Pink Floyd Tribute band “Dark Side Of The Moon” that draws huge crowds. The band will start at 8pm due to their fantastic light show.

July 3 is a Paul McCartney Tribute Band “The Paul McCartney Project” making their first Barberton stop.

An old reliable favorite will be “La Flavour” on July 10. A fun party band and the group has been playing in our area longer than Easy Street. Circa 50 years.

July 17 will be a Grunge band called “Grunge DNA” from Cleveland.

The following week is an “Everly Brothers Experience featuring the Zmed Brothers” Tribute Band.

July 31 is the “Big in Japan” featuring music of the 80″s.

In August, “Ruby Shooz” comes back to the summer concerts from Rochester, NY. Due to schedule conflicts, they did not appear at the Barberton concerts last summer. They play the classic oldies FROM THE 50’s, 60’s and 70’s.

August 14th is “Roxxymoron” which plays a variety of cover songs.

First songs in the hopper for 2020:

Revolution, The Beatles
-Fortunate Son, CCR
-Killing In The Name, Rage Against The Machine
-War, Edwin Starr
-For What’s It’s Worth, Buffalo Springfield
-Something In The Air, Thunderclap Newman
-Sunday Bloody Sunday, U2

The Labor Day fireworks will have a fine party and “get up and dance band “ in Disco Inferno on Sept 5th. They have been around for 20 years out of Cleveland. The band was at Norton’s 200th birthday and tore the place up with their disco music. Very entertaining group.

The Parks will have very popular events like the Easter Egg Hunt at Tusc Park. The  34th Mumfest is September 26 and 27. Of course, fireworks are Saturday, September 5. The Christmas Walk will be back again with the help of the organizational skills of CW Drubel.

The Parks operate the Active Adult Center in the YMCA. Remember, the Parks Department is housed in the YMCA and is not open on Tuesday and Friday afternoons.

Sadly, The Senior baseball league will not play in the city of Barberton this summer after 25 years. The group wants to come back to Barberton next season, but the city is in a financial bind and will not spend the money on the softball fields. There will be a senior softball Silver League tourney this summer drawing about 2000 players. This brings a lot of business to area restaurants.
