Jake and Hannah Preparing for 5 babies!!

Many read the story about a Barberton couple who are expecting quints in 10 weeks. Hannah and Jake Merton are doing great while they best prepare for a new change in life! That is an understatement.

The couple lives on the west side in a three-bedroom home that they bought 2 years ago. Her family of seven siblings is having a baby shower for her next month. Hannah grew up in Marshallville and was homeschooled. Jake graduated from Norton. They meet at the Norton Bowling Team. Jake will graduate from Akron U in March with a degree in financial planning. He already holds his life and health insurance licenses. Jake took college classes while at Norton, and already had a year of college completed by the time he graduated from high school. He is a hard-working young man.

Jake is working as many hours as he can at Aldi’s, picking up extra shifts. Hannah worked at Montrose ACME until recently. Jake is looking for a financial services job now. Jake is 22 and Hannah is 20.

Jake has researched quints, and he can not find a younger couple that has had quints.   The doctor warned them that they had a 10% chance of having twins and a 1% chance of triplets.  Has anyone in the history of 44203 had quints? How about the Greater Akron Area.?

Their biggest worry is finding a vehicle to transport 5 babies. Jake said a Chrysler Pacifica can handle 5 car seats.  Any suggestions for a vehicle? Maybe a car dealer would provide a vehicle for a few commercials of quints!! (Link below to help through a GoFundMe by Hannah’s sister.)

Hannah is 20 weeks pregnant. The doctors at Children’s would like her to go 30 weeks. She is going to have two boys and three girls.

They are an impressive and bright couple. Jake and Hannah feel embarrassed about asking for help. The Merton’s would like the public to do one thing for them! Please pray for the babies and the parents. They really believe in prayer and God’s love!!

Bethany Mckenny is working on a 44203 Community Baby Shower for March. BarbertonJournal.com will follow the developments.

  1. Wish I lived closer- we had 11 children. They would be better off with a 12-15 passenger van. They can travel with help, buy groceries, easily on board without banging their own head 20x , carry all the diaper bags & an emergency bag for the 1 child who always seems to get sick out of the blue, bring a stroller, you name it, without it being a logistical nightmare.

I often was transporting babies and toddlers in car seats over the course of raising our family. Most of our children are 13-18 months apart in age. The larger van was a godsend for groceries in bulk, traveling to family, and even renovating .

I would gladly share ‘survival’ tips of being outnumbered by your children & still hoping to raise responsible, loving, kind adults.

    Blessings and prayers!
